A complaint...

Investigation Section Charities Directorate Canadian Revenue Agency May 8, 2012

Dear Sirs/Madames:

I wish to make an official complaint against two charities, given a rather large discrepancy in reporting of a transfer of funds from one charity to another. Note in the data below, both charities report data to the CRA on a calendar basis (ending on December 31).

For 2010 and 2009, the Islamic Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat of Toronto (ID 107516171 RR0001) gave $901,073 (in 2010) and $802,206 (in 2009), to the Organization of North American Shia Ithna Asheri Muslim Communities (NASIMCO) (ID 119069870 RR0001). (see line 2000)

Yet on NASIMCO's web site the report TOTAL revenues from other charities, as $83,500 (for 2010) and $84,986 (for 2009).  (see line 4510)

I checked the comparable data for previsous years, before 2009, and I found no discrepancy. In fact, ISI-AJT gave no money to NASIMCO before 2007. My main point is that NASIMCO in 2010 has a revenue/expenditure profile at around $200,000 a year, so the $900,000 donation is way out of line.

So somebody, or both organizations, are wrong. There is big money being misreported by somebody.

Sincerely a reader.
